This 17th century wall art piece is a copperplate engraved map of Warwickshire by Robert Morden, created in the Restoration style. The map features hand colouring, a decorative cartouche, and a compass rose, set under glass within a wide grey mount and a thin metallic-finished gilt wood frame. Visible signs of age include slight discoloration and creasing across the cream-coloured paper surface. The piece measures 57 cm by 51 cm. Suitable for a gentleman's library study, this map hangs well on a wall above a sideboard or desk. It brings period character to a traditional interior space and provides an authentic historical focal point for a living room, hallway, or study.

Robert Morden was a prominent English cartographer and globemaker active in the late 17th century. His county maps were engraved on copper plates and published primarily for Camdens Britannia in 1695, featuring detailed regional topographies, roads, and hundred boundaries.

Maps from this period were created using copperplate intaglio printing, where lines were incised into metal plates and printed onto rag paper. Outline colouring was typically applied by hand using watercolour washes following the printing process.

Authentic period maps display a plate mark indentation around the printed border caused by the pressure of the copperplate. They are printed on handmade laid paper featuring chain lines and watermarks when held to light.

Framed historical maps function well as focal points in study rooms, hallways, or living spaces. Pairing antique cartography with modern moulding or mounting creates contrast in contemporary settings while maintaining historic character.

To prevent deterioration, original paper maps must be mounted using acid-free museum-grade board and protected behind UV-filtering glass. Keep framed paper items away from direct sunlight, high humidity, and fluctuating temperatures.
