Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Victorian centre hall table is made from solid oak with a pale bleached finish and a visible natural wood grain. The oval top has a gently carved moulded circular edge and sits above a carved central pedestal column, four scroll legs, oversized carved lion's paw feet, and sturdy metal casters. The solid timber construction is in very good condition and demonstrates high-quality craft through its detailed carving. Measuring 71.5 cm high, 150 cm wide, and 129.5 cm deep, the table dismantles into a removable top secured with screws for transport. It serves as a statement piece suitable for both traditional and contemporary interiors, functioning practically as a centre table in a large hallway, living space, or dining room.

FAQs

Centre hall tables emerged as prominent features in large 18th and 19th-century homes, placed in entry halls to create a formal focal point and receive visitors items.

These tables are traditionally crafted from solid hardwoods such as oak or mahogany, utilising hand-carved pedestal supports, lap joints, and central column anchoring for stability.

Authentic pieces feature signs of hand-planed joinery, natural timber contraction over time, crisp original carving details, and evidence of historical hardware beneath the pedestal base.

A bleached oak finish softens traditional carving, allowing the piece to function as a focal point in neutral foyers, large stair halls, or modern open-plan dining spaces.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a clear matte beeswax periodically to protect the timber surface without altering the pale tone.
