This nineteenth-century treen wooden bowl exhibits a rustic country style, formed from solid timber with a warm brown colour. The piece is shaped with a thick wall profile, a flat base, and a dugout construction, showing visible tool marks on the hand-chiseled interior and a smooth exterior with a split running from the rim downwards. Measuring 9.5 cm high, 16 cm wide, and 16 cm deep, the bowl sits flat upon a surface. Today, this antique woodenware serves as a decorative display object suited for placement atop a sideboard in a rustic farmhouse interior. Its tactile timber surface and simple form offer a functional decorative accent that complements traditional or country-inspired home settings. The sturdy solid wood construction makes it suitable for everyday display within a living room, dining room, or hallway surface display arrangement.

FAQs

Treen refers to small domestic functional objects made entirely from wood, historically produced by hand prior to the widespread adoption of metal, glass, or ceramics.

Dugout bowls were crafted by hollowed-out carving from a single solid block or section of timber, using traditional hand tools such as adzes, gouges, and drawknives.

Genuine pieces typically feature irregular hand-carving marks, slight asymmetry, deep natural patination, timber shrinkage, and wear along high-contact edges.

These organic wooden vessels serve as ideal accent pieces on sideboards, kitchen islands, or open shelving, adding organic texture and contrast to contemporary spaces.

Maintain wooden treen by dusting with a dry soft cloth, avoiding direct heat sources or high humidity, and occasionally applying a thin coat of natural beeswax.
