A Regency tilt-top centre table is a 19th-century table featuring a hinged mechanism that allows the top to swivel vertically. Designed to stand in the centre of a room, it could be tilted upright and stored against a wall to clear space when not in use.

These tables were typically constructed using solid mahogany or oak for the structural base and pedestal, with flame mahogany, rosewood, or walnut veneers applied to the top surface. Cast brass hardware, including catch latches and wheel castors, was standard for the period.

Authentic pieces feature period-correct joinery, original brass snap catches beneath the table surface, and hand-cut brass castors on splayed quadruped legs. Natural age-related shrinkage in the timber top and wear around the pedestal base also indicate age.

When placed in an entryway or living room centre, the top can be locked flat to display books and floral arrangements. In smaller spaces, the top is tilted upright to function as a decorative architectural screen showing off the wood grain.

Dust regularly with a soft, dry lint-free cloth and apply a high-grade beeswax paste sparingly once or twice a year following the grain. Avoid placing the table near heat sources or direct sunlight to prevent timber movement and veneer lifting.
