Description

Edwardian Regency Style Mahogany & Satinwood Oval Dining Table, Circa 1910

A handsome Edwardian Regency style oval dining table, combining a richly figured mahogany top with contrasting satinwood banding and a classic pedestal base.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Regency style dining tables, originating in early 19th-century Britain, are defined by classical proportions, elegant pedestal bases, and rich timber veneers such as flame mahogany or rosewood. Many examples feature tilt-top mechanisms designed to maximize floor space when the table is not in active use.

These tables typically utilise solid mahogany for the structural frame and pedestal legs, topped with figured flame mahogany or satinwood veneers. Decorative borders often feature crossbanding and ebony stringing, while legs are fitted with brass caps and castors.

Authentic period pieces display hand-cut wood veneers, hand-planed underside surfaces, and period-correct brass hardware with natural oxidisation. The tilt-top brass catch mechanisms and original threaded timber blocks also indicate genuine period construction.

In modern interior schemes, a Regency mahogany dining table can be paired with contemporary upholstered dining chairs to create a balanced contrast. Placing the table beneath a modern pendant light or on a neutral textured rug helps ground the classic wood tone.

Preserve the finish by dusting with a soft, lint-free cloth and applying a beeswax polish annually to nourish the wood. Avoid placing the table near direct heat sources or in direct sunlight to prevent timber movement and veneer fading.
