Victorian writing tables were predominantly constructed from solid hardwoods like oak or mahogany, featuring rectangular tops, frieze drawers for stationery, turned legs, and brass castors designed for ease of movement within domestic libraries or studies.

These tables were typically built using English or European oak, featuring hand-cut dovetail drawer joinery, brass keyhole escutcheon plates, turned wooden or brass drawer pulls, and cast-iron or brass wheel castors.

Authentic period pieces display uneven hand-cut dovetails inside the drawers, original brass castors showing wear, age-appropriate shrinkage or grain variations in the timber, and original lock mechanisms.

Position the writing table in a home office or living room corner, pairing it with a contemporary desk chair, modern task lighting, and minimal accessories to contrast the traditional timber craftsmanship with clean modern lines.

Maintain the timber by regularly applying a natural beeswax polish along the grain, keeping the piece away from direct heat sources or damp environments, and wiping up spills immediately to prevent water marks.
