Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE 1800s:
Chevron inlay along the frieze edge: fine late eighteenth-century cabinet-maker's stringing.
Square tapering legs ending in spade feet: classic late Georgian neoclassical design.
Figured mahogany tops with natural movement: timber seasoned by two centuries of drying.
Soft patina and light scratches to the surfaces: honest wear from long domestic use.

This is an independent date report produced by Sellingantiques using its own proprietary system. The process uses the photographs shown on this page. The system is never told the date the dealer has declared. This report shows that the two dates corroborate.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This large pair of antique George III console tables dates from 1800 in the English Country House style. Each piece uses figured mahogany timber finished in a dark brown tone with a polished shine, showing grain patterns across the semi-circular top and plain apron above square tapering legs with spade feet. The matching demi-lune tables stand 75.5 cm high, 122 cm wide, and 61 cm deep. Positioned beside the front door, the pair serves as a welcoming surface for everyday items in a hallway or entrance. The traditional design suits classic domestic interiors, providing generous top surface area while maintaining a slim profile against a wall.

FAQs

A Georgian demi-lune console table is a semi-circular side table designed during the reign of King George III, intended to stand flat against a wall or pier.

These pieces typically feature solid timber frames and figured mahogany veneers, often constructed with mortise and tenon joints and square tapered legs.

Authentic 18th-century pieces display hand-cut joinery, period-correct timber shrinkage across wide tops, and natural oxidisation on unpolished underside surfaces.

Positioning the pair symmetrically in a hallway or framing a doorway creates architectural balance, while pairing them with contemporary artwork creates a curated contrast.

Apply a high-quality beeswax polish along the grain periodically and keep the timber away from direct heat sources and moisture to prevent veneer lifting.
