Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE 19TH CENTURY:
Turned and reeded front legs: typical of William IV styling.
Shaped upstand with scrolled ears: classical taste popular from the 1830s.
Book-matched flame mahogany veneer on the pediment: decorative figure chosen for show.
Soft rubbing along the front mouldings: mellowing from long handling.

This is an independent date report produced by Sellingantiques using its own proprietary system. The process uses the photographs shown on this page. The system is never told the date the dealer has declared. This report shows that the two dates corroborate.

This nineteenth-century mahogany hall table follows the Regency style with a dark brown finish. It incorporates a shaped gallery back, turned decorative rosettes inset along the frieze drawer, and heavily fluted front legs with turned feet, alongside square rear legs. Practical daily wear includes light surface marks and scuffs on the top wooden surface. Measuring 88 cm high by 116 cm wide and 43 cm deep, it provides a functional surface for an entryway or hallway. Positioned beside the front door, the console table functions well as a drop-zone for keys, mail, or decorative items. Its compact depth ensures it sits flush against a wall in narrow corridors or reception spaces while offering storage inside the frieze drawer.

Nineteenth-century English hall tables typically feature solid mahogany or oak construction, turned or fluted legs, shallow proportions, and often include a gallery back or upstand designed to protect wall surfaces in entryways.

Cabinetmakers primarily used solid mahogany, rosewood, oak, or walnut, frequently incorporating flame mahogany veneers on drawer fronts or backboards along with brass or turned wood fittings.

Authentic pieces display hand-cut dovetail joints on drawers, secondary timber like pine or oak on internal undersides, natural surface wear consistent with age, and historical wood shrinkage around joints.

A classic hall table works well positioned in an entryway beneath a modern architectural mirror, balanced with contemporary ceramic vessels or tailored lighting to create contrast.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a high-grade beeswax polish once or twice a year, keeping the table away from direct sunlight and central heating radiators.
