This pair of console tables belongs to the Neoclassical style, dating to 1880 in the Adams manner. The timber possesses a dark brown colour with a rich patina across the flat surfaces. Each demilune table stands on four tapered square legs with small block feet, supporting a top with a moulded edge. The friezes display raised carved swags, oval paterae, and drop husks running along the curved edge. Measuring 75 cm high, 121 cm wide, and 60 cm deep, these consoles suit placement beside the front door or along a hallway in a modern interior. They provide a surface for decorative objects while maintaining a minimal profile against a wall.

FAQs

Adam style furniture, originating in the 18th century, is defined by Neoclassical architectural principles, featuring refined symmetry, delicate relief carvings, and motifs inspired by classical Greco-Roman antiquity.

Craftsmen predominantly used dense hardwoods such as high-grade mahogany or satinwood, constructed with hand-cut joinery like mortise-and-tenon joints, often complemented by hand-carved frieze decorations.

Authentic historical pieces exhibit hand-carved decorative motifs such as drape swags, husks, and paterae, alongside hand-tooled construction details on the underside and natural patination on the mahogany.

Positioning a matching pair symmetrically in a wide hallway, entrance hall, or flanking a fireplace creates structured architectural balance while providing functional display surfaces.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish periodically, ensuring the timber is kept away from direct heat sources and harsh sunlight to prevent drying or discolouration.
