Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An antique folio stand, or portfolio rack, was designed in the 18th and 19th centuries to hold, store, and display large prints, maps, manuscripts, and oversized art folios. It features hinged sides and adjustable mechanisms to allow comfortable viewing of flat artworks without bending or damaging the paper.

Victorian folio stands were predominantly constructed from dense hardwoods such as mahogany, rosewood, or walnut. They frequently feature cast or machined brass ratchet mechanisms, brass support chains, and leather or fabric lined hinged flap surfaces to protect delicate prints.

Authentic late 19th-century pieces typically exhibit hand-finished brass fittings with natural oxidisation, original timber wear along the trestle base, and period joinery such as hand-cut mortise and tenon joints. The leather panels, if original, often show gold-leaf tooling and age-appropriate surface craquelure.

Designers position folio stands in reading nooks, study alcoves, or living spaces to display framed modern art, vintage architectural drawings, or open photography books. The structural profile adds historical depth and texture when placed near contemporary seating or shelving.

Timber surfaces should be dusted with a microfibre cloth and waxed periodically with a natural beeswax polish. Leather panels require specialized leather balm to preserve flexibility, while brass elements are best left unpolished to preserve their historic patina.
