Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A George III snap top tripod table is an eighteenth-century English occasional table featuring a circular top mounted on a spring-catch block. This mechanism allows the surface to tilt vertically when not in use, supported by a central turned pedestal and three cabriole legs.

Craftsmen primarily utilised dense West Indian mahogany for the top and base due to its rich grain and durability. Substructures, such as the tilt block beneath the table surface, were typically made from native secondary woods like oak or pine, held together with hand-forged iron catches and brass fittings.

Authentic period examples display hand-cut dovetails on the block, hand-planed underside surfaces, and natural patination around the base. The iron or brass catch mechanism will show signs of hand-tooling rather than modern uniform stamping, and the timber top often exhibits subtle shrinkage along the grain over time.

Place the table beside an armchair as an occasional drink stand, or fold the top vertically and position it against a wall or corner to display the timber grain as a decorative architectural element.

Apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year to nourish the mahogany and preserve the original finish. Keep the piece away from direct heat sources and radiators to prevent timber shrinkage or splitting, and ensure the spring-catch mechanism is free from dust buildup.
