George III Mahogany Pedestal Supper Table, Circa 1800

Description

A good George III mahogany pedestal supper table, dating to circa 1800.

The rectangular tilt-top is constructed from well-figured mahogany, with rounded corners and a moulded edge, retaining a warm, mellow colour and attractive surface.

The top is raised on a finely turned central column with ring-turned detail, above a triform base of three elegant downswept legs. Each leg terminates in a particularly attractive brass lion’s-paw cap and castor.

The original tilt-top mechanism allows the top to be raised vertically when not in use, making this both a handsome and practical piece of late Georgian furniture.

Of pleasing proportions and good colour throughout, with the expected minor marks and wear commensurate with age and use.
