This Regency period occasional table is constructed from mahogany with a warm brown timber colour, showing a clear wood grain across the rectangular surface. The piece is supported by a well-turned central pedestal above three splayed tripod legs, which terminate in floral decorated brass castors. Minor surface marks are visible on the timber top from age and use. Standing 73.5 cm high, 53 cm wide, and 70.2 cm deep, the table includes a tilt-top mechanism that allows the surface to lift upwards when not in use. In a contemporary home, this occasional table serves as a functional side table placed at the end of a sofa or beside an armchair in a living room, study, or hallway. The compact proportions allow it to fit comfortably into smaller spaces while providing a sturdy surface for lamps, books, or decorative items, and the caster feet permit easy movement across different rooms as required.

Originating in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, Regency tilt-top tables were designed as versatile occasional furniture, enabling room space to be cleared easily by flipping the tabletop vertically when not required.

These tables were primarily crafted from solid mahogany, featuring turned timber pedestals, brass catch mechanisms, and brass castor caps fitted to the splayed legs.

Authentic period examples feature hand-cut brass catches beneath the top, hand-turned pedestal columns, hand-fitted brass castors, and original saw marks on the underside of the tabletop.

Position the piece as an occasional side table beside a sofa or armchair, or tilt the tabletop vertically and place it in an empty corner to show off the natural timber grain.

Apply a natural beeswax polish along the grain periodically, keep the table clear of direct radiator heat to avoid timber movement, and support the base directly when relocating the piece.
