This George III mahogany tripod table dates from around 1800 and embodies the English Country House style. The piece is fashioned from dark brown mahogany, finished with a smooth top and standing in sound condition with one leg replaced towards the end of the 19th century. Design details comprise a circular top, a turned central baluster stem featuring fine ring turnings, and three scrolled tripod legs ending in curled feet. The table measures 67 cm high by 60 cm wide by 41 cm deep. In a contemporary home, this occasional table suits placement at the end of a sofa or beside an armchair in a living room, study or bedroom. It provides a stable surface for lamps, books or drinks while adding traditional character to domestic interiors.

A Georgian tripod table is an occasional table from the eighteenth or early nineteenth century, typically featuring a circular top supported by a turned central pedestal and three cabriole or scroll-shaped legs.

Dense hardwoods such as mahogany and walnut were primary choices for high-grade urban furniture, while regional workshop examples were often crafted from oak, elm, or fruitwoods.

Authentic pieces generally display hand-cut joinery, asymmetrical hand-turned detailing, timber shrinkage across the circular top, and original underside bearer blocks with iron or timber tilt mechanisms.

These compact tables serve effectively as occasional drinks tables positioned adjacent to armchairs, or as functional decorative accents in reading nooks and alcoves.

Maintain timber finish by applying high-grade beeswax sparingly once or twice yearly, keeping the object away from direct heat sources and consistent direct sun exposure.
