This George II oak side table originates from the Georgian period and comes in a rich dark brown colour with a warm timber patina. The piece includes a planked top with a moulded edge above a single narrow drawer fitted with decorative fretted backplate brass handles and a central keyhole escutcheon. Below the drawer sits a shaped apron, supported by four slender cabriole legs that terminate in pad feet at the floor. Measuring 68.5 cm high, 75 cm wide and 40.5 cm deep, the table possesses shallow, compact proportions suited to narrow spaces. In a modern interior, this side table fits well as an accent piece in an entrance hallway, beside the front door, or placed against a wall in a living room or study to provide a surface for small decorative items or daily essentials while adding traditional character to the space.

George II period side tables, originating from mid-18th century Britain, typically feature solid native woods such as oak or walnut, cabriole legs ending in pad or claw feet, and practical single-drawer configurations with brass swan-neck or pierced plate handles.

Tables from this era were crafted primarily from solid English oak, utilising hand-cut dovetail joints for drawer construction, pegged mortise and tenon joinery for the frame, and cast brass hardware fixed with hand-threaded nuts.

Authentic 18th-century pieces display evidence of hand-planing, irregular tool marks, natural wood shrinkage around joint intersections, hand-sawn drawer linings, and aged patination on the brass hardware.

An antique oak side table functions effectively as an entryway console, bedside table, or living room lamp table, offering warm textural contrast against modern paint palettes and contemporary furnishings.

Keep the timber nourished by applying a high-grade beeswax polish twice annually along the wood grain, while placing the piece away from direct radiator heat and direct sunlight to prevent timber shrinkage or splitting.
