In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Chess and games tables gained widespread popularity in nineteenth-century European households as dedicated furniture for parlour entertainment. Often crafted with intricate marquetry or parquetry tops, these tables functioned both as interactive gaming surfaces and decorative occasional tables when not in use.

Cabinetmakers primarily used dense hardwoods such as mahogany, walnut, and rosewood for the primary framing. The game board surfaces frequently featured contrasting timber veneers, such as satinwood, boxwood, or ebony, to form the geometric chequerboard pattern.

Authentic pieces generally feature hand-cut dovetail joints on internal drawer linings, period-correct brass drop handles, and hand-inlaid veneer surfaces rather than printed patterns. Look for natural wear patterns on the turned legs and subtle variation in the timber colour caused by age and exposure to light.

A compact games table works effectively as a functional accent piece positioned beside an armchair, within a library nook, or placed in a fireplace alcove. Displaying an antique chess set or a solitary ceramic vase on top maintains its decorative purpose within contemporary room schemes.

Maintain the timber by dusting regularly with a dry, lint-free cloth and applying beeswax polish once or twice a year to preserve the moisture balance. Keep the table away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent the timber veneers from lifting, warping, or fading.
