Description

A pair of Mahogany Chippendale revival drop leaf side tables dating from around 1900. These original side tables have a carved edge to the top with a single Mahogany lined drawer underneath with original Brass handles. Under the drawers is a fret work corner support to each side. It has fret work legs which have a round leg behind. The legs are on a square spade foot and between the legs to the bottom are fretwork strecthers with a shelf to the centre.

Measures: Height: 28.5" x Depth: 16" x Width Closed: 24.5" x Width Open: 41.5"

Chippendale Revival emerged during the late Victorian and Edwardian periods, reinterpreting 18th-century designs by Thomas Chippendale. Key characteristics include intricate blind fretwork, gothic-inspired carving, cabriole or square pierced legs, and high-quality mahogany timber.

These tables were primarily crafted from solid mahogany, favoured for its tight grain and warm colour. Key joints featured dovetailing on drawers, brass hardware, and wood-hinged flap supports beneath the drop leaves.
