Description

Antique 18th century Georgian side table in mahogany, a handsome and well-proportioned piece of good quality, showcasing fine craftsmanship and the elegant simplicity of the period.

It is fitted with a single frieze drawer to the front, dressed with a brass swan-neck handle on round back plates, providing useful storage for everyday essentials.

The solid top has a moulded edge and sits over a frieze with a gracefully shaped and scalloped apron to all four sides, all raised on slender square tapering legs that give the table a light, refined stance.

The mahogany displays a lovely figured grain and a deep, rich colour with a wonderful aged patina built up over many years, the top in particular showing beautiful warm tones.

Of neat proportions, it would work beautifully as a lamp table, hall table or small writing table. Presented in good antique condition commensurate with age, it is a very desirable piece and a perfect addition to any period or contemporary interior.

Georgian mahogany furniture, originating from the 18th century, is characterised by classical proportions, dense dark timber, and refined joinery popularised during the reigns of George I through George IV.

Cabinetmakers predominantly utilised solid mahogany or mahogany veneers over oak or pine carcass wood, complemented by cast brass hardware such as drop handles or escutcheons.

Authentic Georgian tables feature hand-sawn wood markings, hand-cut dovetail drawer construction, natural timber shrinkage across dimensions, and age-appropriate oxidisation on brass handles.

Place the table in an entryway or living room as an accent piece, pairing dark wood grain against minimalist ceramics or neutral wall treatments to create balanced contrast.
