This 18th-century Georgian side table is constructed from mahogany with a warm brown finish. The table measures 91 cm wide, 41 cm deep, and 71 cm high, standing on cabriole legs that terminate in pad feet. It has a single full-width frieze drawer fitted with two brass swan-neck handles on circular backplates, accompanied by a moulded top with rounded front corners and a shaped apron along the frieze. The mahogany displays a figured grain and a deep patina built up over many years. In a home today, this piece works well as a hall table beside the front door, a lamp table, or a small writing table. The design reflects an English Country House style, incorporating clean lines and functional storage suitable for entryways, living rooms, or studies.

Georgian side tables typically feature clean classical lines, proportioned silhouettes, and high-quality dark hardwoods like mahogany. Popular design details from this era include shaped aprons, cabriole or slender tapered legs, and brass swan-neck handles.

18th-century Georgian furniture predominantly utilised dense imported mahogany, oak, or walnut for structural elements and interior drawer linings. Hand-cut dovetail joints and solid cast brass ironmongery, such as swan-neck drop handles, were standard construction features.

Authentic Georgian pieces exhibit hand-sawn timber marks, hand-carved dovetail jointing on drawers, and natural oxidation on unvarnished underside woods. Original brass hardware will show subtle irregularities and age-consistent patination.

Position the piece as an entryway console or hallway table paired with a modern mirror above it. Combining dark mahogany with neutral wall palettes and understated contemporary decorative accents creates a balanced mix of traditional and modern design.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a quality beeswax polish once or twice a year in the direction of the grain. Avoid placement near direct heat sources or damp environments to protect the historic timber surface and joinery.
