This Georgian mahogany Pembroke side table exhibits a warm brown colour and a traditional English country house aesthetic. The piece incorporates two hinged drop leaves, a single drawer fitted with two circular brass knobs and a keyhole escutcheon, and square tapered legs finished with brass castors. Visible details include delicate inlaid stringing along the legs and subtle signs of age and wear across the polished timber surfaces. The table measures 71 cm high, 92 cm wide, and 56 cm deep when open. In a modern interior, this versatile side table suits placement at the end of a sofa or beside an armchair in a living room, study, or hallway. The drop-leaf design allows the surface area to be adjusted according to available space, providing a practical spot for lamps, books, or decorative items. The traditional proportions and warm timber tones integrate seamlessly into both classical and transitional decorative schemes.

FAQs

Keep the wood away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent shrinking, cracking, or uneven fading. Clean surfaces with a soft, dry cotton cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax paste once or twice a year to maintain the protective finish.

A Pembroke table functions well positioned beside a armchair or sofa, as a compact bedside unit, or as an accent piece in a hallway. The folding leaves allow it to adjust to narrow spatial requirements while providing functional surface space.

Authentic period pieces display irregular hand-sawn wood marks on interior drawer sides, genuine aged patination, and original hand-forged brass hardware or keyhole escutcheons. The underside should show natural age oxidisation and hand-cut wooden leaf-support mechanisms.

Georgian examples are predominantly constructed from solid or veneered mahogany, often featuring pine or oak drawer linings. Key details include hand-cut dovetail joints, boxwood or satinwood stringing inlay, square tapered legs, and original brass castors.

A Pembroke table is a compact form of occasional furniture introduced in Britain during the mid-18th century. It features a central fixed top flanked by two hinged drop leaves that can be raised on folding brackets to extend the surface area.
