This nineteenth-century Victorian Pembroke table is fashioned from warm brown mahogany with brass fittings and displays two drop leaves. The rectangular top rests above a pair of frieze drawers fitted with turned wooden knobs and key escutcheons, supported by a square tapering central pedestal column that descends to a quadform platform base on bun feet. The timber exhibits a polished finish and natural grain variations across the surfaces. Measuring 69 cm high, 74 cm wide, and 38 cm deep, the piece functions as a side table positioned at the end of a sofa within an English country house setting. The drop leaves provide an adaptable surface area for everyday domestic use.

A Pembroke table is a compact drop-leaf table introduced in the 18th century, featuring two hinged side flaps and usually one or two drawers, designed for versatile multi-purpose use in residential interiors.

These tables were typically crafted using dense hardwoods such as mahogany, rosewood, or walnut, often constructed with hand-dovetailed drawer joints and turned timber pedestal supports.

Authentic period examples feature hand-cut joinery inside the drawers, original timber rule joints along the hinged leaves, aged brass or wooden knobs, and evidence of hand-planed woodwork beneath the tabletop.

A Pembroke table functions effectively as an end table beside a sofa, a compact bedside stand, or an entryway console, extending its leaves when additional surface area is required.

Dust the surface regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a thin coat of natural beeswax twice yearly, keeping the table away from radiators and direct sunlight to prevent timber shrinkage.
