This Georgian period wine cooler dates to circa 1780 and exemplifies 18th-century craftsmanship. Formed in an oval shape from warm brown mahogany timber, the piece is bound with polished brass straps and features a hinged lid with a small lifting ring, a keyhole escutcheon, drop ring handles at the sides, and four straight tapered legs. Observable details include the distinct grain of the polished wood and the metallic banding wrapping the body. Measuring 68 cm in height with a top dimension of 60 cm by 45 cm, this cellarette provides practical storage space within a home setting. It functions well today in an empty corner as a decorative accent or beside an armchair as a functional side table.

Maintain the finish by dusting with a dry microfiber cloth and applying beeswax sparingly along the wood grain, while keeping brass elements clean without using abrasive chemical polishes.

In contemporary settings, a cellarette functions effectively as a standalone accent table, an eye-catching end table, or discrete storage for modern barware in a living or dining space.

Authentic period examples exhibit hand-cut dovetail joinery, age-appropriate timber shrinkage across the oval top, original brass hardware with natural oxidisation, and hand-shaped tapered legs.

These pieces were typically constructed from solid mahogany or mahogany veneers, bound with brass straps, and often fitted with lead or zinc interior linings and brass drop handles.

Popularised during the 18th century, a wine cooler or cellarette was designed to hold ice and chill wine bottles in formal dining rooms during multi-course meals.
