This George III oval wine cooler originates from the Georgian period. The piece uses mahogany timber with a warm brown colour, complemented by brass hoops and hardware along with a zinc interior lining. Coopered staves form the main oval vessel, held together by two wide polished brass bands, while twin ring handles hang from small brass mounts on either end. Four tall, tapered square legs support the body, terminating in brass wheel castors at the floor. The timber exhibits a smooth finish with visible grain variations and aged patination across the staves and legs. Measuring 53 cm high, 66 cm wide and 43 cm deep, this compact item fits well into an empty corner of a living room, dining room or study. Homeowners today use such pieces as decorative stands, side tables or traditional drinks holders during gatherings. The design suits period interiors, country houses and traditional spaces, pairing effectively with antique sideboards or alongside upholstered armchairs.

A Georgian wine cooler, also known as a cellarette or wine cistern, is an 18th-century dining room piece designed to house ice and cool bottles of wine during meals.

These vessels were typically constructed using coopered mahogany staves bound with brass hoops, fitted with twin carry handles and an internal lead or zinc liner to retain ice and liquids.

Authentic period examples feature hand-turned brass bindings, square tapered or cabriole legs with period brass castors, dovetail or coopered jointing, and original metal interior linings showing age-related patination.

In contemporary settings, a freestanding cellarette can function as an occasional side piece, a decorative planter for indoor greenery, or a container for firewood in a living space.

Dust the timber surfaces regularly with a lint-free cloth, apply clear beeswax polish occasionally along the grain, and ensure the metal lining remains dry to prevent oxidisation.
