It is made from beechwood which is generally used for the best quality hat stands.

The hat stand is heavy, strong and in very good original condition.

Traditional bentwood coat stands were constructed primarily from beech wood, which becomes pliable when exposed to pressurized steam. The softened timber was shaped in iron moulds, secured with threaded metal bolts, and stained to resemble mahogany or walnut.
