Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Designed in the mid-19th century by Michael Thonet, bentwood hall stands transformed furniture manufacturing through steam-bending solid beechwood. These freestanding designs combined utility with organic, curved lines, integrating upper coat hooks with a lower ring for umbrellas.

These stands are crafted primarily from solid beechwood softened with steam and shaped inside metal moulds. The structural components are joined using steel or brass screws rather than mortise and tenon joints, creating lightweight yet resilient hall furniture.

Authentic pieces often feature paper maker labels or impressed brand stamps, such as Thonet, on the central support pole or frame underside. Original examples exhibit precise steam-bending curves, countersunk fixings, and uniform stain finishes.

Place the stand in an entryway, hallway, or boot room to introduce vertical height and curvilinear shapes against neutral walls. It serves as functional storage for coats and hats while acting as a standalone architectural accent.

Dust the timber regularly with a soft, dry cloth and apply beeswax polish periodically to maintain the surface finish. Keep the stand away from direct radiators and moist environments to prevent the wood from drying out or warping.
