Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Nineteenth-century French porcelain trinket boxes are small decorative lidded vessels, frequently produced in factories around Paris or Limoges. They often feature hand-painted portrait or classical vignettes, cobalt blue ground glazes, and heavy gilded framing inspired by eighteenth-century Sevres styles.

These items were crafted from hard-paste porcelain, decorated with enamel pigments fired at varied temperatures, and accented with mercury gilding or raised gold leaf. Additional embellishments frequently included enamelled beadwork applied to resemble pearls or jewels.

Authentic pieces exhibit visible brushstrokes under magnification, subtle variation in enamel thickness, and gilded borders that show light age-related wear. Maker marks or artist signatures may be present on the underside or within the painted scene, alongside characteristic French porcelain paste texture.

A porcelain trinket box functions as a refined accent piece on a dressing table, bedside stand, or stacked atop books on a coffee table. Its rich cobalt blue glaze and metallic detailing provide contrast against neutral modern surface materials such as marble, lacquered wood, or polished stone.

Dust the porcelain gently using a soft, dry microfibre cloth or horsehair brush. Avoid abrasive chemical cleaners, water immersion, or aggressive wiping on gilded areas, as rubbing can permanently remove delicate surface gilding and enamel details.
