FAQs

Victorian farmhouse kitchen tables were utilitarian pieces produced during the nineteenth century, designed for food preparation and domestic dining. Typically constructed from softwoods like pine, they feature sturdy planked tops, deep aprons, and turned wooden legs.

These tables were primarily built using solid pine or deal wood, chosen for its affordability and availability. Joints were typically secured using traditional joinery methods, such as mortise and tenon construction, with pegged or nailed timber supports.

Authentic nineteenth-century pine tables feature signs of genuine age, including natural wood shrinkage, uneven wear across the top planking, and hand-lathed turned legs. Original construction details often include peg jointing, square-headed nails, and deep timber oxidisation on the underside.

A Victorian pine table can be styled in a contemporary space by pairing it with modern dining chairs, such as mid-century bentwood or metal designs, to create a balanced contrast. Placing the table against modern minimalist backdrop highlights the natural texture and warm tones of the timber.

Maintain the wood by applying a natural beeswax paste every few months to nourish the timber and retain its protective patina. Clean surfaces using a lightly damp cloth, avoiding abrasive chemical cleaners or excessive water exposure.
