Victorian transferware refers to glazed earthenware decorated using copper-plate engraving prints applied to paper and transferred onto the ceramic body before firing. This technique allowed for detailed landscape and floral patterns to be produced efficiently during the nineteenth century.

These platters were made from white or off-white earthenware or ironstone ceramics, finished with a transparent lead-based or feldspathic glaze over cobalt blue underglaze decoration.
