Duke Antiques and Interiors has dated this 17th Century Flemish Tapestry Fragment to the 17th Century.
The scene is set against a rich ground of foliage, with patterned side borders featuring caryatid figures. The palette of soft blues, greens, ochres, and ivory reflects the characteristic natural dyes of the Flemish weaving centres during the 17th century. This fragment, originally part of a larger hanging, demonstrates the refined artistry of the period, where allegorical and mythological subjects were favoured for aristocratic interiors.
The second C17th Fragment depicts an enthroned allegorical figure beneath a canopy, flanked by attendants and framed with scrolling foliage. Once part of a larger allegorical piece, this surviving section retains strong historical interest and decorative presence.
Measurements: 72cm x 59cm
Provenance: The collection of Mr Nicholas Squire (1949-2024), Suffolk.
Condition: Some wear consistent with age. Colours remain warm and decorative.
