This Regency-period William IV wine table is formed of solid mahogany in a warm brown tone with a visible natural grain pattern across the circular top. The turned vertical stem features pronounced collars above a triform platform base, supported underneath by small bun feet showing visible signs of age and patina consistent with frequent use over time. The wood displays an aged finish with minor surface wear marks across the timber surfaces. Measuring 75 cm high by 46 cm wide and 46 cm deep, the compact dimensions suit placement at the end of a sofa in a living room or position in a hallway to hold a table lamp or small decorative items.

FAQs

The William IV period spans roughly 1830 to 1837, acting as a bridge between Regency elegance and Victorian weight. Furniture from this era often features robust turned columns, carved foliage, bold scrollwork, and thick triform platform bases.

Wine tables of this era were primarily crafted from high-grade solid mahogany or rosewood, often featuring hand-turned pedestals and veneered triform bases over softwood or pine cores.

Look for signs of genuine age including natural wood shrinkage across the grain of circular tops, original brass tilt-top mechanisms, hand-cut joinery beneath the pedestal, and an authentic oxidized finish on the mahogany.

An antique wine table serves as an occasional accent piece positioned alongside an armchair or sofa end, ideal for holding a modern table lamp, books, or drinks without cluttering small living spaces.

Dust regularly with a soft, dry lint-free cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year, working along the grain. Keep the table away from direct sunlight, radiators, and moisture to prevent wood splitting.
