Antique William IV Period Mahogany Occasional Table

19th century
Description

A fantastic original antique William IV period mahogany occasional table. This was made in England, it dates from around the 1830-1840 period.

It is of amazing quality, with a very bold and striking design. The central column base has beautiful carving and sits on three legs which are also beautifully carved. The circular top is a great size and has a lovely moulded edge.

We have had this re-polished to a very high standard, it is in excellent condition for its age. There are some minor bumps and marks remaining beneath the polish, commensurate for age. Overall this has a gorgeous colour tone and stunning patina.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating between 1830 and 1837, William IV furniture bridges the Regency and early Victorian eras, characterised by robust proportions, bold turned columns, and high-grade timbers.

Solid mahogany, rosewood, and walnut were primary choices, constructed with hand-turned central columns, dovetailed tripod joints, and hand-cut brass screws.

Authentic items show signs of age in timber patination, hand-planed undersides, historic turned moulding details, and traditional jointing methods on the pedestal support.

Position the piece alongside a sofa or armchair as an accent drinks table, or place it in a quiet reading corner supporting a modest ceramic table lamp.

Keep the wood away from direct heat sources and strong sunlight, dust regularly with a soft cloth, and apply a thin layer of natural beeswax annually along the grain.
