Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

William IV furniture dates from 1830 to 1837, marking a transitional bridge between the classical proportions of the Regency era and the heavier ornamentation of the early Victorian period. Key features include bold architectural shapes, tapered columns, lotus carving, and quadform platform bases.

Tables from this period were predominantly crafted from dense, high-grade timbers such as West Indian mahogany, rosewood, and oak. Secondary timbers for internal drawer linings usually consisted of deal, pine, or oak, assembled using hand-cut dovetail joints.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetails within the drawers, turned wood or brass hardware correct to the era, and natural shrinkage or oxidisation along the timber grain. The undersides of platform bases typically show hand-sawn timber marks and original castors or feet.

Position the piece as an accent table beside a sofa, adjacent to an armchair, or within an entryway. Complement the warm mahogany wood tones with contemporary ceramics, soft table lamps, or structured botanicals to contrast historical and modern elements.

Dust regularly with a dry, lint-free microfibre cloth and apply beeswax polish once or twice a year following the timber grain. Avoid placing the wood near direct heat sources, radiators, or strong sunlight to prevent warping and bleaching.
