Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An antique wooden decoy goose is a hand-carved, painted sculptural bird created in the 19th or early 20th century primarily to lure wild fowl during hunting. Over time, these functional objects gained recognition as significant examples of rustic folk art.

Carvers typically fashioned decoys from accessible softwoods such as pine, cedar, or white wood using drawknives and spokeshaves. The bodies were either carved solid or hollowed out to reduce weight, followed by hand-applied lead weights for stabilization in water and coats of oil paint.

Authentic pieces feature signs of practical usage, such as shot marks, water wear, natural wood shrinkage cracks, and original rasp marks beneath aged paint layers. The surface should show genuine oxidation and patina rather than artificially distressed modern paint.

Display the decoy as a standalone sculptural focal point on a mantelpiece, sideboard top, or within an open shelving unit. Combining folk art carvings with clean modern lines creates balance through contrasting textures and sculptural forms.

Dust the surface lightly using a soft, dry microfibre cloth or a soft-bristle brush to avoid flaking fragile paint. Keep the object away from direct sunlight, central heating vents, and high humidity to prevent wood movement and paint loss.
