Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Imari porcelain originates from the town of Arita in Hizen province, Japan, and was exported to Europe in large quantities from the port of Imari during the Edo period, highly prized by western collectors for its vibrant colour palette.

Imari pieces are crafted from fine-grained white clay, hand-thrown, and fired at high temperatures before being hand-painted underglaze in cobalt blue and overglaze in iron red, frequently accented with fine gold details.

Authenticity is determined by examining the weight of the porcelain, the presence of spur marks on the unglazed base from firing, hand-painted brushwork inconsistencies, and the characteristic palette of underglaze cobalt blue combined with iron red and gilt.

An Imari charger can be displayed on a dedicated plate stand on a sideboard or mantelpiece, or mounted securely on a wall to add rich colour, pattern, and historical texture to contemporary or traditional spaces.

Antique porcelain should be cleaned exclusively by dusting with a soft, dry cloth or washing by hand in lukewarm water with mild soap when necessary, avoiding abrasive scourers and dishwashers to protect the delicate overglaze enamels and gilding.
