This large Anglo-Indian side table from the 1900 period takes the form of an octagonal occasional piece. Constructed from teak, the surfaces display a warm brown colour with intricate geometric brass inlay forming a prominent star motif across the top. Pierced jali lattice carving decorates the apron panels, complemented by arched lower stretchers. The timber shows natural grain variations and subtle tonal contrasts between the inlaid brass elements and the carved woodwork. Measuring 60 cm high, 60 cm wide, and 60 cm deep, the dimensions provide a practical surface area suitable for domestic settings. Position this table at the end of a sofa in a gentleman's library or drawing room to hold a lamp or decorative items. The compact footprint suits placement beside seating or in smaller corners while offering surface utility. The solid construction and traditional decorative motifs integrate easily into both period and eclectic interior schemes. Daily use requires only basic dusting to maintain the polished teak and inlaid brass details.

Originating in the Hoshiarpur region of Punjab during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, these tables feature intricate brass wire and sheet inlay set into dark hardwoods like teak or rosewood, heavily influenced by Anglo-Indian design preferences.

Craftsmen typically utilised local hardwoods such as teak, shisham, or rosewood, combined with hand-cut brass sheet and wire inlay. The tops display geometric parquetry patterns, while the bases showcase hand-carved, pierced lattice panels known as jali work.

Authentic period pieces feature hand-chiselled grooves with flush-fitted metalwork, visible hand-carved joinery, and natural patination across the timber and brass. Octagonal bases with stylised lattice arches and folding mechanisms are characteristic of this regional trade.

An inlaid octagonal table functions effectively as an occasional side table beside upholstered armchairs or positioned within a reading corner. The rich timber tones and metal details add texture and historical contrast to contemporary rooms.

Clean the surfaces regularly with a dry microfibre cloth to remove dust without snagging the brass inlay. Avoid using liquid polishes or water, as moisture penetration can loosen delicate wire inlay and distort the surrounding timber.
