Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in the late nineteenth century, the Arts and Crafts movement championed handcrafted metalwork over mass industrial production. Copper became a favoured material due to its malleability, warm tone, and ability to clearly display hand-tooling marks.

Artisans formed copper trays from a single sheet of metal, hand-shaping the outline with specialist hammers over wooden or iron anvils. Handles were either integrated into the raised body sheet or riveted separately, while edges were folded or rolled to increase structural integrity.

Authentic hand-hammered copper displays slight irregularities in the size, depth, and spacing of hammer facets across the surface. Look for hand-finished borders, natural oxidisation within the indentations, and stamped makers marks on the underside.

A large copper tray functions effectively on a sideboard, ottoman, or kitchen island as a defined base for grouping glassware, decanters, or ceramic vessels. The warm metallic tone creates clear visual contrast against dark timber, marble, or painted surfaces.

To preserve natural patination, clean copper gently using warm water, neutral soap, and a non-abrasive soft cloth. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners or abrasive scrubbers that strip surface oxidation or scratch the metal.
