We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

Sword sticks, or sword canes, gained significant popularity during the Victorian era as a discrete means of personal protection for gentlemen navigating urban environments at night.

Traditional sword canes feature shafts made from resilient natural materials such as malacca cane, bamboo, or exotic hardwoods, paired with steel blades, often forged in historic centres like Toledo, and fitted with brass or precious metal collars.

Authenticity is determined by examining the patination of the wood, the construction and wear of the locking mechanism, hallmarks on metal collars, and the forging characteristics and makers marks on the steel blade.

An antique sword stick can be displayed securely mounted on a wall bracket or placed vertically within a dedicated umbrella and cane stand, integrating into a study or library decor.

The steel blade should be treated periodically with a microcrystalline wax or light oil to prevent corrosion, while the wooden shaft benefits from occasional applications of neutral furniture wax to maintain the finish without damaging the natural fibers.
