In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

FAQs

Chinese lacquer screens date back thousands of years, initially used in imperial courts as windbreaks and privacy dividers before evolving into highly artistic decorative panels showcasing intricate craftsmanship.

Authentic pieces are traditionally crafted from wood substrates coated with multiple layers of natural tree sap lacquer, which is then hand-painted, gilded with gold leaf, or carved in relief.

Authenticity is identified by examining the depth of the lacquer layers, hand-mixed natural pigments, fine craquelure in the finish, and traditional joinery methods on the reverse panels.

Position the screen against a neutral wall to act as a dramatic focal point, use it to visually zone an open-plan living area, or place it in an empty corner to add texture, colour, and historical contrast.

Protect lacquerware from direct sunlight, extreme temperature fluctuations, and high humidity. Dust gently with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and avoid using chemical cleaners or polishes.
