Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE 1860s:
Carved scallop shells on the knees: early Georgian styling revived in the late Victorian era.
Coved waist frieze housing a concealed drawer: refined late 19th-century cabinetmaker detailing.
Slender cabriole legs tapering to pad feet: delicate proportions typical of revival work.
Mahogany top showing faint surface scratches: honest signs of age from domestic use.

This is an independent date report produced by Sellingantiques using its own proprietary system. The process uses the photographs shown on this page. The system is never told the date the dealer has declared. This report shows that the two dates corroborate.

This nineteenth-century Irish side table takes the form of a rectangular mahogany side table in an Irish Georgian style. The warm brown timber displays a polished finish with rounded corners to the top and a single frieze drawer fitted with a small round wooden knob. The piece stands on cabriole legs ornamented with carved shell motifs at the knees, terminating in pad feet. Measuring 71.5 cm high, 81 cm wide, and 53.5 cm deep, this side table serves functionally as a practical surface in a hallway, living room, or study, fitting easily beside the front door or against a wall to hold lamps, keys, or decorative objects in an English Country House interior.

Irish furniture from the Georgian and 19th-century periods is characterised by relief carving, such as shell motifs on the knees of cabriole legs, paired with dense mahogany timber.

These tables were predominantly crafted from solid Cuban or West Indian mahogany, featuring pine or oak internal drawer linings and hand-cut dovetailed joinery.

Look for hand-cut dovetail joints inside drawers, hand-carved detailing such as shell knees and pad feet, and natural signs of wood shrinkage on the underside.

Place the table in an entryway or living space paired with a contemporary table lamp and ceramic objects to contrast warm dark timber with modern textures.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply beeswax polish once or twice a year to preserve the lustre, avoiding placement near direct heat sources.
