Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This George III lamp table dates from 1800 and exemplifies English country house style in solid plum pudding mahogany with a warm brown finish. The round tilt-top mechanism allows the surface to rest vertically on a central turned column stem above three shaped cabriole legs terminating in pad feet. The wood grain shows distinct figured markings across the circular top, complemented by clean turned details on the pedestal base and smooth curves along the tripod supports. Measuring 71 cm high by 76 cm wide and 76 cm deep, this occasional table fits neatly at the end of a sofa or beside an armchair in a sitting room or hallway. The versatile tilt-top function provides a space-saving display option when not in use as a lamp or side table, bringing traditional character and functional design to contemporary interiors.

FAQs

Originating in 18th-century Britain, a George III tilt-top table features a circular surface attached to a central turned column and tripod base with a catch mechanism, allowing the top to tilt vertically for storage when not in use.

These tables were predominantly crafted from solid timber, such as dense Cuban mahogany or figurative plum pudding mahogany, featuring hand-carved turned columns, brass snap catches, and wrought iron underside brackets.

Authentic period pieces feature hand-cut dovetails on the underside block, hand-turned pillars showing subtle historic irregularities, original brass catch hardware, and natural timber movement across the circular top.

Position the table beside a contemporary sofa or armchair to hold a reading light, pairing the rich mahogany patina against neutral textured upholstery and architectural walls.

Keep the table away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent timber movement, dust regularly with a soft dry cloth, and wax polish once or twice yearly with natural beeswax.
