Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This George III occasional table originates from around 1800. Constructed from warm brown mahogany, the piece displays a smooth circular top carried on a turned tapering pedestal column that rests upon three shaped cabriole legs terminating in pad feet. The wood grain shows natural figuring across the circular surface, while the turned central column exhibits ring details above the tripod base. Measuring 65.5 cm high, 45.5 cm wide, and 45.5 cm deep, this lamp table provides a compact surface for everyday household items. Suitable for various spaces throughout a traditional interior, the table functions effectively as an end-of-a-sofa surface for a reading lamp or a resting spot for decorative objects. The tripod configuration offers stability on a floor, and the narrow footprint allows placement in corners or beside seating arrangements without occupying excessive room space. The classic English country house aesthetic integrates easily with existing antique or transitional furnishings, adding functional display space to a living room, study, or hallway.

FAQs

Originating in 18th-century Britain during the reign of King George III, these occasional tables typically feature a circular top supported by a central turned pedestal column and three cabriole legs.

These pieces were predominantly crafted from solid Cuban or West Indian mahogany, featuring hand-turned pedestals, hand-cut dovetail joints for the legs, and solid wood block joinery beneath the top.

Authentic pieces display signs of hand-planing on the underside, slight oval distortion of the circular top due to natural timber shrinkage over centuries, and original hand-forged or wooden block fixings.

Position the table beside an armchair or sofa as a compact surface for drinks or a reading lamp, introducing rich timber tones to contrast with contemporary upholstered seating.

Dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year, keeping the table away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent timber movement.
