Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A 19th-century mahogany console table typically features a decorative front profile designed to sit flat against a hallway or reception room wall. Popular during the Regency, William IV, and Victorian periods, these tables often display elaborate hand-carved legs, serpentine tops, and low rear upstands.

These tables were primarily crafted from dense mahogany, valued for its fine grain and durability. Construction typically utilised hand-cut mortise and tenon joinery, carved scroll legs, and hand-veneered surfaces over solid wood frames.

Authentic 19th-century pieces feature hand-carved decorative elements with slight irregularities, hand-planed underside surfaces, and natural patination on the mahogany finish. Look for traditional joinery techniques and evidence of age in structural joints rather than modern fasteners.

Place the console table in an entryway or hallway to create an anchor point, paired with a contemporary mirror or large artwork above it. Modern ceramics, sculptural brass accents, or minimal table lamps balance the traditional carved woodwork and rich mahogany finish.

Keep the timber away from direct heat sources and strong sunlight to prevent drying or fading. Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a quality beeswax polish periodically along the grain to preserve the wood lustre and patina.
