FAQs

A quartetto nest of tables consists of four graduated occasional tables designed to slide neatly beneath one another when not in use. Popularised in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, they provided flexible space-saving surface area for serving tea or entertaining in traditional reception rooms.

Edwardian craftsmen frequently utilised high-grade mahogany, rosewood, or satinwood, often featuring delicate line inlay, stringing, or crossbanding around the table tops. Construction relied on traditional mortise and tenon joinery, fine dovetails, and slender turned or faux-bamboo legs connected by curved stretchers.

Authentic Edwardian pieces display fine hand-carved details, thin mahogany veneers over solid timber frameworks, and natural signs of age such as minor shrinkage lines or light patina. The underside of the tops typically exhibits authentic hand-planed wood surfaces and original wooden runner tracks.

Position a nest of tables beside a sofa or armchair to offer versatile surface space for guests without cluttering the room. Individual tables can be drawn out and distributed around a seating area when entertaining, then stacked back together to maintain clean floor space.

Dust the surfaces regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth, following the direction of the wood grain. Protect the timber from direct sunlight and heat sources, and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year to maintain the lustre and preserve the natural patina.
