Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Grand Tour alabaster urns are Neoclassical decorative stone vessels carved primarily in Italy during the 18th and 19th centuries. They were acquired by European aristocrats and travellers undertaking educational tours across continental Europe as decorative reminders of classical antiquity.

These urns were hand-carved from natural alabaster, a translucent fine-grained gypsum stone mined predominantly in regions like Volterra, Italy. The urns often comprise multiple carved sections joined by metal threaded rods or internal stone pins.

Authentic period pieces display subtle hand-carving tool marks, natural veining within the stone, and uneven aged patination. Later machine-made reproductions typically show uniform surface textures and sharper, cast-like seam lines.

A Grand Tour urn works effectively as a focal point on a timber sideboard, marble mantelpiece, or console table. Placing the object against contrasting patterned wallcoverings or dark wood paneling highlights its carved silhouette and translucent natural stone.

Alabaster is a soft, water-soluble mineral that should never be washed with water or liquid cleaners. Dust gently using a soft, dry natural-bristle brush, and keep the object away from high humidity and direct heat sources.
