FAQs

The Georgian style spans the reigns of the four British monarchs named George from 1714 to 1830, characterised by a transition from heavy walnut to refined mahogany, incorporating classical proportions influenced by Palladianism and Neoclassicism.

Cabinet makers predominantly used solid mahogany and mahogany veneers, often applied over secondary woods like pine or oak, utilising traditional joinery such as mortise and tenon, hand-cut dovetails, and brass hinges for folding mechanisms.

Authenticity is identified through period-appropriate tool marks, hand-forged or early brass hardware, timber shrinkage consistent with age, hand-cut joinery, and the use of density and grain patterns typical of Cuban or Honduras mahogany imported during that period.

A historical fold-out table works effectively in modern spaces when contrasted against minimalist walls, serving as a functional console against a wall or opened up as an accent piece, paired with contemporary lighting or modern art.

Preservation requires maintaining stable indoor humidity levels between 40-50 percent, avoiding direct sunlight to prevent timber fading, and treating the surface periodically with traditional beeswax rather than modern silicone polishes.
