Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Georgian fold-over table is formed from mahogany in a warm brown colour with an attractive timber grain throughout. The piece takes the form of a console or hall table with a shaped top, a moulded edge, and a serpentine-curved front apron above four slender square tapering legs. The hinged top opens to reveal a larger surface. The wood shows visible surface variations and gentle marks of age. Measuring 73 cm in height, 90 cm in width, and 46 cm in depth when closed, with an open surface measuring 90 cm by 92 cm, the table fits neatly beside a front door, in a hallway, or against a living room wall to provide a functional surface for keys, post, or decorative items.

FAQs

A Georgian serpentine fold-over table is an 18th-century piece of English furniture featuring a subtle wave-like, curved front apron and a hinged top that opens to double its surface area, historically used for tea or card games.

These tables were typically crafted from solid mahogany or rich mahogany veneers, often incorporating brass hinges, oak or pine secondary drawer linings, and hand-cut joinery.

Authentic Georgian examples display hand-sawn timber marks, original gate-leg or swing-leg support mechanisms, hand-forged brass hinges, and natural patination on unpolished underside surfaces.

Position the closed table against a hallway or living room wall as a console, styled with a table lamp, decorative ceramics, or framed art to contrast warm wood tones against contemporary backdrops.

Maintain the polished finish by dusting with a soft, dry cloth, applying beeswax sparingly once or twice a year, and keeping the timber away from direct heat sources or damp environments.
