This nineteenth-century demilune console table is designed in the French Provincial Louis Philippe style, presenting a half-moon shape with an Azul Valverde marble top over a small single drawer. The wooden frame displays an original cream painted background accented by smoky grey-green tones and gold leaf highlights. Elaborate decorative elements include guilloche carving along the frieze interspersed with rosette blocks, an ornate acanthus leaf scrollwork apron centered beneath, and four fluted legs with turned bulbous upper sections and pointed feet. Additional visible details comprise a beaded moulding running below the frieze and visible wear to the paintwork. Measuring 76 cm high, 63 cm wide, and 31 cm deep, the table fits into a hallway beside the front door or serves as a surface in a reception room. It provides a compact staging area for decorative objects in a home.

Originating in the late eighteenth century, demilune console tables feature a distinctive semi-circular footprint designed to sit flat against a wall. Neoclassical examples are characterised by architectural symmetry, fluted tapered legs, guilloche friezes, and motifs inspired by classical Greco-Roman antiquity.

Traditional console tables from this period were crafted with solid timber frames, often softwood or fruitwood, covered in gesso layers prior to hand painting. Decorative details were either carved directly into the wood or moulded from composition before being finished with water gilding using genuine gold leaf.

Authentic period pieces exhibit signs of natural ageing such as craquelure in the painted finish, wear to the gilding exposing underlying red or yellow clay bole, and hand-cut joinery underneath. Original marble tops usually show minor hand-cut undersides and natural surface patination.

A demilune console table functions exceptionally well in narrow hallways, foyers, or alcoves where space is limited. Interior designers often pair them with a wall-mounted mirror or artwork hung directly above the marble top to create a balanced focal point.

Dust painted and gilded areas gently with a soft, dry camel-hair brush to avoid scratching or flaking fragile gesso layers. Marble surfaces should be wiped with a clean, slightly damp cloth and kept free from acidic liquids to prevent etching the stone surface.
