Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Putti figures, depicting winged or wingless chubby infants, originated in classical antiquity and were widely revived during the Renaissance and Victorian periods. They were frequently incorporated into architectural ornaments, sculptures, and functional library accessories as symbols of innocence, art, and learning.

Figurative bookends were traditionally crafted from heavy, dense materials to ensure stability on shelves. Common mediums include terracotta, cast bronze, carved marble, iron, and heavy stone composites.

Authentic period terracotta pieces often display hand-finished detailing, subtle variations in surface texture, and natural wear patterns such as micro-chipping or faint surface patination. Mould seams may be present but are typically softened by hand-carving or tooling prior to firing.

Classical bookends can be placed on minimalist shelving, a modern mantelpiece, or an executive desk to create visual contrast. Pairing earthy terracotta textures with contemporary hardback books or sleek dark timber furniture adds depth to the space.

Clean unglazed or lightly patinated terracotta using a soft, dry bristle brush or microfibre cloth to remove dust. Avoid using liquid cleansers, harsh detergents, or excessive water, as porous clay materials can absorb moisture and degrade over time.
