We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

FAQs

Decorative obelisks gained immense popularity during the Grand Tour of the 18th and 19th centuries, and experienced a resurgence during the 19th-century Egyptian Revival movement following archaeological discoveries.

Traditional obelisks are typically carved from various types of marble, alabaster, or hardstone, frequently featuring inlaid stones, engraved hieroglyphs, or gilded bronze mounts.

Authentic period pieces display natural stone weathering, hand-carved detailing with tool marks consistent with age, and construction methods characteristic of historical lapidary work rather than modern resin casting.

They function effectively as sculptural elements when placed symmetrically on mantelpieces, bookcases, or sideboards to add height, architectural interest, and classical symmetry to a room.

Clean them gently using a soft, dry microfiber cloth to remove dust. Avoid chemical cleaners, acidic substances, and excessive moisture, which can damage the polished stone surface.
