This classical revival garden statue on plinth dates from 1950 in the English country house style. The piece takes the form of a cherub figure holding a sheaf of wheat, elevated upon a moulded pedestal base. Both components are constructed from reconstituted stone and composite stone finished in a weathered grey colour. The carved putti shows natural surface moss, lichen patches, and an aged textured patina from exposure to the elements. Standing at 145 cm high by 38 cm wide and 33 cm deep, the sculpture commands presence in outdoor settings. Gardeners and landscape enthusiasts deploy such classical ornaments within formal courtyards, beside garden pathways, or upon manicured lawns to enhance traditional horticultural arrangements. The substantial pedestal secures stability on soil or paving slabs, while the durable composition withstands seasonal frost and rain without losing its decorative integrity in domestic grounds.

Cherub and putto statues originated in classical antiquity and gained widespread popularity during the Renaissance and Baroque periods, frequently used in European gardens to represent themes of innocence, nature, and the four seasons.

Historical garden statues were predominantly carved from natural limestone, marble, or sandstone, while nineteenth and early twentieth-century examples were frequently cast in composition stone, reconstituted stone, or terracotta for durability outdoors.

Authentic aged stone features natural weathering, biological growth such as moss and lichen, soft erosion on sharp details, and subtle colour variations across surfaces exposed to rainfall and sunlight over time.

Position the piece as a focal point at the end of a gravel pathway, within a framed border of topiary, or nestled among lush perennial planting to create vertical height and classical contrast.

Protect the stone from severe frost by elevating the base slightly off waterlogged soil, avoid harsh chemical cleaners or pressure washing, and allow natural lichen growth to maintain the historic patina.
